Where a van can stop near Khaosan
Here is the thing nobody tells you before you arrive: Khaosan Road itself is often too packed with people, stalls and tuk-tuks for a van to pull up in front of a door, and in the evening it is largely given over to people on foot. Many guesthouses also sit on narrow side lanes such as Soi Rambuttri, where a Toyota Commuter simply cannot turn in.
So send us the name of your guesthouse or hostel when you book, not just "Khaosan". Your driver will get you to the closest spot where it is safe to stop and unload, and point you the right way for the last few steps. With a backpack on and a day bag in front, that short walk is a lot easier than finding your way from a bus terminal across town. Arriving after dark? Keep your phone on, so the driver can call you when he is close.
One fare, split between the whole hostel crew
The price is for the vehicle, not per head. A Van Pattaya to Khaosan Road booking is ฿2,200 one way for the whole van, with nine proper seats and room for eight big bags, and tolls and fuel are already in that number. Divide it between a group of friends who met on Walking Street and it stops looking like a splurge. Two of you travelling light? Smaller cars start from ฿1,400.
The drive itself is the usual Pattaya to Bangkok run, plan on two to two and a half hours, then a slower final stretch through the old streets of Banglamphu. Friday afternoons and the evening before a long weekend are the slow ones. Nothing gets paid up front: you hand the driver cash at the end.
- Send the exact guesthouse name and, if you have it, the map pin
- Arriving at check-in time? Tell us so we can plan the pickup around it
- Carrying anything bulky, like a surfboard or a bike box, mention it before the day
- Heading on to an airport later in your stay? Ask for that leg in the same chat
The old town on your doorstep
Part of the reason travellers base themselves here is what sits around it. The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are a short tuk-tuk ride away, Wat Arun is just across the Chao Phraya, and Phra Athit Road runs along the river a few minutes' walk from the backpacker strip. Once your bags are in the room, you can be standing in front of a temple within the hour. And when the sun goes down, the street food, bars and music along Khaosan and Rambuttri pull in a crowd from every corner of the world.
When it is time to come back to the coast, or if you want the van Pattaya to Khaosan Road and back again in one day, we fix that price in chat before you go, so there is no surprise at either end of the trip.
