The pier the whole river runs through
Sathorn Pier, also called Central Pier, is the main stop for boats on the Chao Phraya. It sits under Taksin Bridge, right beside the Saphan Taksin BTS station, and it is where river boats head upstream towards the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Wat Arun and the old city. It is also where many riverside hotels run their shuttle boats from, which is why so many visitors pass through it on their first afternoon in Bangkok.
Arriving from Pattaya by road, the pier is the natural handover point: the car brings you to the river, and the boat does the rest. Two to two and a half hours of driving, and you step out at the water with your bags instead of hauling them up and down station stairs.
With suitcases at a river pier
A pier is not a hotel lobby. The landing moves with the river and the boats, and it gets crowded when several arrive together. A little planning keeps the handover calm, especially with older travellers or heavy bags.
- Ask your hotel where its shuttle boat leaves from and how often it runs — they will know the current arrangement
- Keep one hand free on the landing; a backpack or a smaller case is easier than two big ones
- Many riverside hotels can also be reached by road — if you would rather skip the boat, give us the hotel name instead
- Heading back to Pattaya later? Tell us and we arrange a pickup at the pier, priced in chat before you go
We do not give out boat timetables or fares — those belong to the boat operators and the hotels, and they change. What we can promise is that you arrive at the pier at the time you asked for.
Booking the run to the river
There is no published fare for this drop-off, so the fixed price for the whole vehicle is confirmed in chat before the trip. It includes tolls and fuel, it covers everyone on board rather than each person, and you pay the driver in cash when you arrive. No deposit, no meter, nothing to work out in a hurry at the kerb.
A couple can go in a sedan; a family or a group with luggage is better off in the Toyota Commuter, with nine seats and space for eight bags. When you message us about a van Pattaya to Sathorn Pier, include your pickup address, the number of people and bags, and what you are doing next — a boat, a hotel shuttle or a walk to the BTS. If it turns out you would rather be dropped somewhere else in central Bangkok, our Pattaya to Bangkok transfer covers that too. A Van Pattaya to Sathorn Pier ride is simply the most direct way from the beach to the river.
