Bangkok's clothing quarter
Pratunam is the part of central Bangkok where clothes are bought by the armful. The lanes of Pratunam Market and the floors of Platinum Fashion Mall are packed with stalls selling to resellers and holidaymakers alike, often cheaper when you buy several pieces. Baiyoke Tower II stands over the whole district, and the streets around it are lined with hotels of every size, so many visitors simply stay here and shop on foot. The big malls of Ratchaprasong, centralwOrld among them, are a short walk away.
It is a district for people with a plan: a list of things to buy for a shop back home, a family wardrobe to refresh, or just a few days of serious browsing. Some come for a single afternoon; others base themselves here for several days and head out each morning with an empty bag. Either way, arriving by road straight from Pattaya means you can start shopping the same day, rather than losing hours to a bus terminal and a taxi queue.
Slow streets, so get dropped at the door
Pratunam's roads are some of the most crowded in the city, with delivery trucks, motorbikes and shoppers all sharing the kerb. Being dropped exactly where you are staying saves dragging cases through the market crowds. Two to two and a half hours from Pattaya brings you into the middle of it; the last stretch is the slowest part, so do not judge the trip by the motorway.

Space for the haul on the way home
The van Pattaya to Pratunam fare is ฿1,900 one way for the whole Toyota Commuter, tolls and fuel included, for up to nine people. That is one price whether two of you go or nine.
